Walking The Thin Man

In May 2005, I learned that I had developed amyloidosis, a rare protein folding disease. This is my story.

Chemo: Day One

As expected, today was anticlimatic.

I got in around nine in the morning to get some fluids in my body. This happened for two hours. I then got some anti-nausea drugs (the set mentioned in the previous post). I just layed back and read a book.

Then, for about 50 minutes, I was required to suck on ice-cubes. This would happen before, during and after the chemotherapy to prevent the poison to enter my mouth and cause cold sores. This was very uncomfortable, especially when the ice lay on my gold fillings. But I had to bear it and keep on scooping more in anyway.

Fifteen minutes into this freezing regimen I received 200mg of melphalan via my catheter. I felt no pain nor anything that felt like anything was happening to me. The Ativan kicked in and I took a nap.

Tomorrow I go in and do the same thing.
