Walking The Thin Man

In May 2005, I learned that I had developed amyloidosis, a rare protein folding disease. This is my story.

The Tooth Shall Set You Free

Once I start chemotherapy, my immune system will be destroyed, leaving me vulnerable to all types of germs for the better part of a year. As a result, any current or potential infection issues need to be eliminated before I begin.

I've got a baby tooth that never developed an adult tooth underneath, and it never fell out. I've known about it for years, but about 9 months ago there appeared that its roots were starting to rot. Nothing conclusive. My dentist kept an evil eye on it, and I was planning on having the tooth pulled later this year.

With my immune system down for a while, the doctors do not want to take a chance that the tooth will rot and get infected while I am sick. They have ordered me to have it removed -- this afternoon.

This could delay my treatment as this would need to heal before chemo begins. I will know more later today.

Tony,
If you need/want a visitor before the chemo starts (if it doesn'start on 7/5), I work right around the corner in Back Bay.....ice cream is good for a missing tooth...LM
