Walking The Thin Man

In May 2005, I learned that I had developed amyloidosis, a rare protein folding disease. This is my story.

Day + 18: Recharging

A long time ago I bought one of the first iPods. It was a second-generation model, with an updated control panel and a 20GB hard drive. Back then, the iPods were relatively big, unlike today where you could lose one in your pocket.

There was a lot of public outcry (and eventually a lawsuit) a couple years ago on the early models, for it was discovered that some of the batteries in these units were defective, and would stop holding a charge after a year or two. This manufacturing snafu eventually affected my old iPod, rendering it into an expensive paperweight.

That's exactly how I've been feeling recently -- I've been unable to go no more than a couple hours without a "recharge", and I've been as productive as a paperweight. My days have consisted of alternating periods of bustling activity and naps. This is a sign that my body is starting to deal with the residual effects of the chemo in full force.

The swollen gland in my neck has gone down since the weekend, but it is still present. I'm continuing to get this weird pain in my left cheek, just below the ear. It's not actionable at this moment -- I'm watching it, hoping that it will eventually go away.

Otherwise, it is "steady as she goes" -- I'm taking my recovery on a day-by-day basis, hoping that I will recuperate much faster this time around.
